The famed "golden hour" is when the light is at about a 45 degree angle, casting everything with buttery rich colors (and beautiful cool shadows) and creating a heightened, almost surreal sense. It's beloved of painters and photographers everywhere. This piece I painted from our backyard, plein air style, aka, sitting out on the grass, complete with ants in my pants, etc.
