Rest in peace,
By which I mean in dancing Rest in song, offkey and unrepentant, strong hands hammering the steering wheel, wind in silver hair Rest in a river, silt eddying in ribbons through summer toes, freckles spreading like wings in flight across the crest of your shoulders Rest elbow deep in flour and smells of bay leaf, cardamom, onion, Rest wrapped in the colors and indescribable softness of your own handwork, needles clicking in the soft crackle of fire light Rest in our thoughts, and in our wishes that somehow we could hold you Tenderly, fervently. Every day and always, I love you. november, of course, 2014. copyright Sarah Hirsch. |
